Chinese American International School (CAIS) is an independent and accredited Pre-K through 8th grade English-Mandarin immersion program in San Francisco. The school enrolls over 450 students, on two campuses. Due to the growth of the school, CAIS is in need of a strong, full-time PE Teacher to take on PE curriculum at the beginning of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Position summary: Responsible for physical education teaching to CAIS students.

Main area of focus and responsibility:
       Collaboratively plan and deliver curriculum, instruction and assessment to align with school mission, policies, goals and initiatives.
       Integrate Chinese language component into physical education curriculum.

Specific duties (not limited to):
       Develop effective lesson plans to teach physical education appropriate to the age or grade level.
       Maintain basic standards of respect, courtesy and mutual consideration towards colleagues and students.
       Explain and enforce safety rules governing sports, recreational activities, and the use of sports and exercise equipment, maintain order in classroom, and adhere to & enforce school rules.
       Maintain accurate and complete academic reports that provide a cumulative record of student performance. Prepare evaluations, grades and progress reports according to prescribed procedures and deadlines.
       Communicate with parents: return phone calls, emails and notes in a timely manner.
       Meet responsibilities and deadlines in the classroom and of the school (e.g., recommendations, evaluation, grades, and progress and interim reports).
       Attend faculty and division meetings throughout the year.
       Support school functions, such as athletic events, dramatic and musical productions, arts exhibits, alumni activities, school dances, graduation, winter program, and participate in Back-to-School Night.
       Serve on various faculty committees as needed.
       Assist with projects in specific disciplines, curriculum mapping, and other areas as needed.

Essential skills and experience:
  • Bachelors in Kinesiology, or work experience with Teaching Credential
  • Commitment to school mission, policies and initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Initial and continued tuberculosis clearance
  • Initial and continued criminal background clearance by DOJ and FBI
  • CPR and First Aid Certified.

Valued but not required skills and experience:
  • Bilingual:  English/Mandarin
  • Experience teaching in diverse communities
